الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
الله اكبر كبيرا، والحمد لله كثيرا، وسبحان الله بكرةً وأصيلا
إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ ,نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ ونستغفره ,ونعوذ بالله من شرور أنفسنا ,ومن سيئات أعمالنا ,مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللَّهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ ,وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ ,وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ , وَأَشْهَدُ وَأَنَّ سيدنا وحبيبنا ومولانا مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُه ﷺ
عما بعد
فقال الله تعلى في كتابه العزيز بعد أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ
You who believe, have tawqa of Allah and be with the truly sincere.
This blessed ayat contains a command from Allah to the believers, and there are two parts to it. The first is to have taqwa of Allah and the second is to be with the sadiqeen – the truly sincere, those who are absolutely true in their words, their actions and their intentions.
Taqwa is to obey Allah in all of His commands and to refrain from those things He has prohibited, inwardly and outwardly, thus protecting oneself from Allah's displeasure.
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
The importance of having taqwa is stressed many times in Allah's book. At the beginning of Surat al-Baqara, Allah informs us that the Qur'an is a guide for the muttaqun, those who are characterized as having taqwa:
أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ
الۤمۤ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ لَا رَیۡبَص فِیهِ هُدىً لِّلۡمُتَّقِینَ ٱلَّذِینَ یُومِنُونَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَیُقِیمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ یُنفِقُونَص وَٱلَّذِینَ یُومِنُونَ بِمَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ وَمَاۤ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ وَبِٱلۡآخِرَةِ هُمۡ یُوقِنُونَ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ عَلَىٰ هُدىً مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ
The translation of which is:
Alif Lam Mim
That is the Book, without any doubt. It contains guidance for those who have taqwa:
those who have iman in the Unseen and establish salat and spend from what We have provided for them;
those who have iman in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down before you, and are certain about the Next World.
They are the people guided by their Lord. They are the ones who have success.
Here, Allah mentions some of the exalted characteristics of the people of taqwa. Firstly, Allah mentions “those who have iman in the Unseen”, which is an action of the heart. Taqwa is based on belief in things which are beyond the perception of the senses, such as Angels, the Garden and the Fire. Secondly, Allah mentions that the muttaqun “establish salat”, which is an action of the body. It is a physical act by which the slave strives to draw near to his or her Lord, to ‘connect’ with Him and to remind himself of the transitory nature of this world. Establishing the prayer goes beyond simply doing the prayer; it is to fulfil all personal and social conditions needed to make the prayer possible and to make this connection with the Divine a firmly rooted part of your life. Thirdly, Allah mentions “…and spend from what We have provided for them” which is action related to one's wealth, spending it fee sabil Allah. Of course, this includes Zakat and charitable giving, but the people of taqwa are aware that their provision extends beyond what is in their bank account and their physical possessions, and includes their talents, knowledges and spiritual gifts. Thus, Allah brings attention to three important zones of action, to which the Divine commands and prohibitions relate: one’s heart, one’s body and one’s possessions.
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
Then, paying special attention to the heart, Allah tells us of the belief of the people of taqwa:
وَٱلَّذِینَ یُومِنُونَ بِمَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ وَمَاۤ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ وَبِٱلۡآخِرَةِ هُمۡ یُوقِنُونَ
The translation of which is:
those who have iman in what has been sent down to you
and what was sent down before you, and are certain about the Next World.
Thus, at the core of their being is an acceptance of the final revelation and those revelations that came before. Moreover, they have certainty about the temporary nature of this world, being only a part of the homeward journey to their Lord. Consequently, the muttaqun act according to the guidance of the Messenger ﷺ which is reported by Abdullah Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, who said:
أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِمَنْكِبِي فَقَالَ:
" كُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا كَأَنَّكَ غَرِيبٌ، أَوْ عَابِرُ سَبِيلٍ "
The translation of which is:
The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ took hold of my shoulder and said: “Be in this world as though you are a stranger in a foreign land or a traveller passing through.”
Aw kama qala ﷺ
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
The narrator of that Hadith, who was the son of Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with them both, would say:
إِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ فَلاَ تَنْتَظِرِ الصَّبَاحَ، وَإِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ فَلاَ تَنْتَظِرِ الْمَسَاءَ، وَخُذْ مِنْ صِحَّتِكَ لِمَـرَضِكَ، وَمِنْ حَيَاتِكَ لِمَوْتِكَ
The translation of which is:
“When you reach the evening, do not expect to reach the next morning, and when you reach the morning, do not expect to reach the next evening. Take form your health for your illness, and from you life for your death.”
The expression “Take form your health for your illness, and from your life for your death” means that, when you are alive and well, you should make the most of it so that when the time comes that you are too ill to do certain acts of worship, such as fasting, or when you are dead and you can no longer act, all you will have left is what you did while you were able to act. Therefore, one must make the most of the time one has to worship Allah and serve the Deen of Allah, before it is too late.
Finally, this short excerpt ends by Allah’s affirmation that the people who embody these noble characteristics are the ones who have succeeded:
أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ عَلَىٰ هُدىً مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ
Which means:
They are the people guided by their Lord. They are the ones who have success.
These people, who believe in Allah and his messengers, who are active in their worship of Allah, who serve Allah with their selves and their wealth, who have yaqin – certainty – that everyone will die, be raised up and will account for the way they have spent their lives before heading toward a more permanent abode – either the Fire or the Garden –they are people who are certain about this truth are ‘alaa hudan mir-rabbhihim – firmly established in guidance from their Lord. These people are al-muflihoon – the truly successful ones.
Therefore, I advise you and myself to take heed of this. Let us have taqwa of Allah and we will be successful as Allah has promised us, and Allah will surely fulfil His promise.

أقول قولي هذا واستغفر الله لي ولكم ولسائر المسلمين
واستغفرواه ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

الحمد لله رب العالمين والصلاة والسلام على خير المرسلين وعلى آله وصحبهِ أجمعين
عما بعد
قال الله تعلى في كتابه العزيز بعد أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ
Allah says in His Noble Book:
You who believe, have tawqa of Allah and be with the truly sincere
As mentioned earlier, there are two parts to the command in this ayat. The first was to have taqwa, and the second is to be with the truly sincere [koonoo ma’as-Saadiqeen], which is explained by ibn Ajiba, may Allah have mercy upon him, as being with them in their faith, their statements, their actions and their intentions. Thus, this is both a political and a spiritual command – don’t be with the people of falsehood, be with the people of truth. Align yourself with them, support them, become like them and take on the quality of sidq that they embody.
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
Ibn mas’ood, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
إنَّ الصِّدقَ يَهْدِي إِلَى البرِّ، وَإِنَّ البر يَهدِي إِلَى الجَنَّةِ، وإنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَصدُقُ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللهِ صِدِّيقًا، وَإِنَّ الكَذِبَ يَهْدِي إِلَى الفُجُورِ، وَإِنَّ الفُجُورَ يَهدِي إِلَى النَّارِ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَكْذِبُ حَتَّى يُكتَبَ عِنْدَ اللهِ كَذَّابا
The translation of which is:
Sidq, truthfulness, leads to birr, good conduct, and good conduct leads to the Garden. A person will continue to be truthful until he is written as a Siddeeq – a truthful person – with Allah. However, lying leads to immorality and immorality leads to the Fire. A man will continue to lie until he is written as a liar with Allah.
Hasan bin Ali reported from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
دَعْ مَا يَرِيبُكَ إِلَى مَا لاَ يَرِيبُكَ فَإِنَّ الصِّدْقَ طُمَأْنِينَةٌ وَإِنَّ الْكَذِبَ رِيبَةٌ
Which means:
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt. Sidq, truthfulness, is peace of mind, whereas lying is a source of doubt.
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
There is no doubt that we are living in a very unusual time as a result of the recent pandemic and the resultant government restrictions. One unfortunate consequence of this has been that people have become distant socially. Yet, the Deen of Allah, as we all know, is Deen al-Fitra, the Deen of our natural form. An integral characteristic of human beings is that we are social by nature.
Allah has shown us great generosity by allowing us to share in each other’s company, the company of other believers. This is a reason to be very grateful to Allah – indeed, our gratitude is also one of His gifts to us and we could never enumerate his blessings!
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
As you all know, today is a very special day. It is Eid al-ADHaa, the Eid of Sacrifice. It is the day that Sayyiduna Ibrahim, Khalil-ullah, the Close Friend of Allah, was ordered by his Lord in a dream to sacrifice his son. His son said, “Do what you have been ordered, you will find me among the patient”. But when the time came, and his son was laid down on his side for the slaughter, Allah said: qad Sadaqtar-ruya “You have been true to the dream” and he was ordered to sacrifice a large ram in place of his son. This act of sacrifice was so great that Allah made celebrating it part of His Deen.
قُلْ بِفَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُواْ
The translation of which is:
Say: ‘It is the favour of Allah and His mercy that should be the cause of their rejoicing.’
Therefore, we celebrate and remember this great event in a number of ways. Firstly, by attending the Eid prayer. Secondly, by making arrangements for a sacrifice if one has the means to do so – which should be a healthy sheep or goat (both of which should be at least a year old), or a cow (which should be at least three years old), or a camel (which should be at least five years old). We do this as soon as possible after the Eid prayer and it is forbidden to sell or exchange the meat. You can use it to feed your family and friends, you can set some aside, and you can give some to the poor. It is good to do all of these. During the three days of the Eid, we also recite takbirs after each of the next fifteen obligatory prayers, the last of which is subh on Saturday. This can be done using the wording I have used throughout this khutba:
الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر لا إله إلا الله الله أكبر الله أكبر ولله الحمد
In Ibrahim’s sacrifice is a great sign. Making sacrifices is essential if we wish to deepen our connection with the Divine. Allah says:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ اشْتَرَىٰ مِنَ الْمُومِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُم بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ
The meaning of which is:
Allah has bought from the muminun their selves and their wealth in return for the Garden.
At the end of this passage Allah declares:
وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ
That is the great victory.
Sacrifice opens the way to a great victory!
In the aftermath of this period in which gathering has been more difficult than it ordinarily would be, perhaps one of the most significant elements of this Eid is that we are celebrating it together. Let us enjoy this day and, after it has finished, let us remember the joy found in this company and put time aside for each other, and make the sacrifices necessary to help this community to continue growing.
May Allah make this Eid a springboard from which taqwa and being with and among the truthful can become re-established in our lives, both collectively and individually. We ask Allah for mercy for us and the whole umma, we ask for the establishment of the Deen in our time and we ask Allah to purify our hearts.
رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّاب
اللهم أرنا الحق حقا وارزقنا إتباعه وأرنا الباطل باطلا وارزقنا إجتنابه
إنَّ اللهَ ومَلائِكَتَهُ يُصلُّونَ على النَّبِي يَا أَيُها الذينَ آمنوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِوسَلِّمُوا تَسْليماً. اللهمَّ صَلِّ وسَلِّم وبارِك على سيدنا محمد وعلى آلِهِوصَحْبِهِ أجمعين.
وارضَ اللهم عن الخلفاء الراشدين أبي بكرٍ وعمرَ وعثمانَ وعلي ، وعنسائر الصحابة أجمعين، خصوصا الأنصارَ منهم والمهاجرين، وعنالتابعين وتابعي التابعين ومن تبعهم بإحسان إلى يوم الدين.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَامُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ وَإِیتَاۤىِٕ ذِی ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَیَنۡهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡفَحۡشَاۤءِ وَٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَٱلۡبَغۡیِۚ یَعِظُكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ
اذكروا الله يذكركم ولذكر الله اكبر والله يعلم ما تصنعون
Eidukum Saeed!
